I know nothing about catching grouper other than they like to hide in holes. I know it could of been anything but I'm curious if this is a sign of a grouper.

Out on a pier tonight my buddy hands me my reel to try to free it cause he got hung up, while I'm working it popping the bail to try to work it loose, I close the bail, tighten up the slack and the reel starts singing like there's no tomorrow, then the line breaks (probably from what it was stuck in)

buddy of mine told me about a ray that he hooked in the wing and after 45 minutes of being towed around the bay he finally cut the line. There are some big ones out there.

Huge Rays are out there. They will hit the bottom and bury in the sand giving you the hung up feeling, then take off again smoking the drag until they break off or you finally get it on top.

I'm going to guess that's what it was then, because I think we were to shallow for grouper. We were at that little pier on the Gulf breeze side of the 3mb opposite the boat launch
