I'm looking at possibly hunting in IL during smoke pole season next year. Do you have to apply fer a quota, or buy tags over the counter? Do they have a 3/5/7 day hunting license or you gotta buy a year license?

Might actually do Missouri if my son gets into Missouri University so I'll be looking fer clubs/public land near Columbia.

Thanks

Heck, I'd prob have Hutton Unit luck on smoke pole tag up there then!!!!!

You have to get into the lottery for a gun/muzzle loader tag and the gun tags are county specific so you have to know what county you want to hunt when you apply. There are 3 lottery draw times, 1st 2nd 3rd lotto, the latest lotto draw (3rd time) is in august, so the sooner the better. I forgot to get in the early drawings and got in last minute of the 3rd drawing, a few times, I was worried I wouldn’t get a tag but my buddy in Illinois said you will get it, Illinois isn’t going to turn away that money, he was right.
Once they issue all the tags if there are any left over which there usually aren’t any either sex tags(buck tag) usually there are some antlerless tags left, you can buy one of those over the counter. If you get into the lotto and don’t draw a tag they refund your money. They have a 5 day or annual license. Bow tags are over the counter. Hope this helps

Exactly what I was looking fer!!! Thanks..... So you pay up front then if you don't get drawn, you get $$$ back...Is this just a small fee fer the tag or are you paying fer your whole license?

Unfortunately you gotta pay full price for the tag, gun tag is $330 but more than likely you’ll get the tag

Boy that sucks, especially if something happens when it comes time to hunt and there is a conflict but heck I'll still do it!!!!
