I keep telling myself that it's not worth it to hunt this weekend because of all the acorns that are just starting to fall and have been falling, but I know I will end up going. If I could burn every oak tree on the property, and hunt on the biggest one I'd be set. We don't even usually get deer on camera over corn when the acorns fall because they're so darn lazy.

Walnut hill is covered up with the little water oak acorns.... I don't think deer like them cuz they are covering the ground and the deer are still coming to feeders. I know they love the big white oak and small red oak acorns. Seen very few of those on ground so far. Really hoping for a cold winter!!

Yeah, turkeys love those water oak acorns. The nice big white oak acorns are the ones that the deer crave. 90% of our stands are set up on white oaks that we have cleared around.

Pick out a couple of your favorite oaks this spring and give them some 13-13-13 fertilizer. Then hunt them in the fall! They will be producing the best and most acorns. This even works on public land, however if your caught walking out with your fertilizer they might think you have a pot crop. This has never happened to me, but an FWC officer advised me of that.
