So, I've had an issue of keeping bait fish alive for any length of time. I use an oxygenator capable of oxygenating 8 gallons of water, but only use 5-6 gallons of water. I put the bait in a 54 quart igloo ice chest. Usually 25-50% of my bait will die within a couple hours of being caught, sometimes more. I can almost never keep croakers or spot alive. The water never gets warm, it stays cool.
I prefer to go catch bait before I go fishing because I don't like to worry about catching bait while I'm fishing.
Is there anything else I can try, or is this just the way it is?
