Howdy Folks,

There's a lot of people upset about gun sales not being allowed on PFF and I wanted to chime in.

A couple of weeks ago it seemed like the hunting gear section was getting out of control and some users were abusing the section. By abuse I mean some people where only here to list guns for sale and not be apart of the community creating a Craigslist type of feel.
Because of this there was a request that ban Gun Sales from the site and I complied. This was followed by a number of members complaining and the moderators asking for gun sales to be allowed again.

Here's the problem. I don't really know the legality of selling guns online. I know A LOT of people have posted that it's totally OK and there is nothing to worry about. I understand that but I also question if a gun does end up in the wrong hands if we would be held liable as the source for where that gun was exchanged. This has lead to be being hesitant about allowing gun sales to be added back to the site.

Because of all the concerns I feel like I need to talk with a lawyer about this and that's a time consuming and expensive process. I know a lot of people will yell and scream about this but I'm not going to put myself in a situation where I can get sued just because of pressure to allow it. So for now, we are going to continue with the gun sale ban on the site.

At the end of the day this is a fishing site and while fishing and hunting often go together I don't think us allowing gun sales on the site should be a deal breaker for anyone. If so I'm sorry to disappoint you but that is the way it is.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear I can no longer trade firearms with my pff friends.....but the "other" site is up and running now so no big deal.
If your google Adsense account does not suffer too much , then a return to fishing only is a good play for your nerves. I don't remember the local paper being sued for featuring sporting goods for sale ... And I believe it is completely legal for individuals to list a private trade or sale . Most of the sites that do not allow it are just anti gun.
I will still visit the pff....but I have to admit my usage has dropped about 80 percent....for what that's worth. I would usually check the firearms section...and THEN contribute to the other sections while I was logged on.:whistling:

I for one don't blame you for being cautious in this sue happy world! I've never sold a gun on this site, but have a bought a few here without any issue's. Hope there is a way to allow gun sales again, but if not so be it.

We were told that it was the owner's request to take down the gun sales. Seems like it was not the case. :whistling:

I have been here quite a long time before you came around Nathan. It used to be "OUR" forum for locals to get together, have fun and do a lot more than fish. But you have bought it and you can do as you see fit. It makes no sense. But a lot of what people do make no sense to me. Plenty of classified places allow the listing of guns online and in print and more. It does not take a lawyer to figure some things out. But some people I guess need a lawyer to make sense of common sense.:whistling:

If it's your site you can do what you want. That's just how it is! I really dont have a dog in this fight, but I still dont understand all the hooplah over this. There is another site up filling the "void" as they call it. I can still check out fishing reports and guns for sale at the same place, my couch. So what you have to type a different address in your web browser, it's not like you need to drive across town. Just seems like this is all being blown up beyond what it needs to be. Hope I am not making it worse....

So, if one runs with this line of thinking, why allow anything related to guns on this site? The ammunition, gun components, optics for the guns, etc should also not be allowed. If one is liable for a single component, then all components present the same liability.

Of course, then one would need to question the liability of everything else on the site. Those hooks are looking mighty sharp, not to mention what could be done with a gaff or a spear gun (oops did I say gun???)

I have never seen a bunch of cry babies whine about something so insignificant in my life.... For those that have nothing to do but cry about a fishing forum not allowing gun sales, I feel very sorry for you. There is life after the internet....

Question, not gonna whine or anything because rules are rules and I don't make them. Is it possible at all for us to keep things to PM's? As in if I post that I WTB a shotgun, and someone works out a deal via PM, is something of this nature ok?

Golly gee wiz, I miss the guns also but I think where the mods went wrong is when one of you indicated they were coming back soon. Just say the guns are OUT, and delete anymore post reference to them.
Life will go on without them.

I really think you could solve a lot of problems by deleting the entire "Hunting/Shooting" forum. After all, this IS the Pensacola FISHING forum.

Whats the problem with having a hunting/shooting forum that you just can't sell a gun in? Seems like to me you just have nothing else to do in your life other than complain on a forum...

Nathen, out of curiosity what was the original complaint the member had about the "guns for sale" that caused he/she to request it to be prohibited?

I've supported and respected the decision to ban the sale of firearms but it definitely isn't the same.

Hook, line and sinker. Sorry, just couldn't resist. This forum has turned out to have a lot of entertainment value sometimes.:whistling:

Those that know me personally know I usually don't do that. But sometimes it's just too easy.
