I still have trouble with posts from my Iphone. My big fingers and 60 year old eyes seem to make me an even worse speller than I am on a good day. Had a lot of fun though. Caught 2 nice specs Tuesday so it looks like the cold snaps are bringing the fish up into the upper parts of the bay. There is nothing like catching a Red in a kayak

Ive fished escambia by Jims a little. What you guys catching the Reds and Specks on? Ive caught a couple reds but size wasnt legal. Ive been using two different lures. Weedless spoon and a plastic shiner minnow. I need to get a bait tube. Ive been throwing my lure against the reeds. Then I normally just gradually drag my lure on the bottom. Didnt have much luck today. Any advice would be great. I also tried the plastic shrimp lure.

I have been using top water lures with a walk the dog action. If they are not hitting on top I move to a jerk bait. No luck lately with jigs or carolina rigs for me, but both can be productive at times.

I fish the area Jim's frequently. Been having good luck on trout and the occasional red on Berkley swimbaits - the 3" rigged swimming pogies. Freshwater section of Academy. Pull 1 or 2 behind the yak and the trout cannot leave them alone. Great search lure. Also having good luck with the Rapala Skitterwalk topwater. I carry a bunch of gear with me but the swimbaits are accouting for almost all my catches.
