I’ve always liked GMC better than any other trucks .

I want to buy my son a new one before I die which will be soon.

He likes his old 2012 gas burner 1500.

I want to get him a newer 2500 diesel.

Tell me which newer one is the best one

Thanks

Dang, I hope you the best with your health.

I have 2022 loaded 2500 mega cab with the Cummins. It’s a great riding truck. Air ride is extremely smooth. That being said, it has so much electronic stuff the giant iPad screen can be a bit glitchy. Fuel economy is 22-25 mpg on average.
The GMC is a nice truck but I don’t have much seat time in it for a fair comparison.

I pray for more comfortable time ahead for you my friend

To the topic, my friend bought a 21 ram with 60k miles late last year. Loves it, however just flashed its first see dealer for DEF code. I have heard the gmc just lack power compared to the ram. From the same source, he said my 6.7 powerstroke is far better, lol. I am partial to the Ford, always wanted one, was forced to buy a new truck in Dec. Decided to buy the one I have wanted for 12 years.

I vote Ram, but no dog in thay fight. Keep fighting Sir!

I've had 4 Duramax's and 3 Cummin's. Just traded in my '07 Duramax (LBZ), Only engine I consider better is the old 12 and 24 valve Cummin's and bought a '22 2500HD. So far I'm loving the new L5P engine and 10 spd Allison and I tow a 22k 5th wheel with it a lot.

I have a good friend in Arkansas that buys a new truck every year. He can get anything he wants. He has bought GMC trucks for years. In 2020 I persuaded him to drive my F-250. He has bought three new F-250’s since then. Said he will never go back to GM.
I still have my 19 F-250 Power Stroke. I used to be a diehard GM guy as well. One time the local dealership pissed me off and I went and bought an F-150 mostly just for spite. I was overwhelmed at the quality, power, ride, and the handling of the truck. Been a Ford guy since and will never go back. Tried a Dodge half tononce and traded it in after about six months of owning it.

Unless you just HAVE to get a 2500, look in to the 3.0 duramax trucks. I bought a 21 AT4 with the babymax and it’s been flawless. Pulls anything I want it to and we did a trip to Jacksonville and back today with a 27mpg [email protected] It was well above [email protected] 80+.

My SIL is a Dodge fanatic, of course his are older 3500 and 2500's both diesels. He constantly has issues between tranny's and turbos (although he drives the piss outta them)...Ive owned a GMC 2500 since 2018 and had no issues with the motor or tranny. Only issues are stearlership want wayyyyyy to much $$$ fer maintenance (I'm sure that is ANY dealer)...Just took mine in fer a recal and of course they did a check up.....sent me a list of 14 things needing attention to the tune of about 4K. Many of the items I have taken care of, the others I will tackle myself (all front end issues due to lift and bigger tires). If I didn't have a 5th wheel, I wouldn't own a 2500/3500. So basically ask yourself if your son really needs a 2500.

I used to be a GM fan, until my last one. Sierra Denali. The small things breaking drove me to get rid of it. Door handles, Tow/Haul not working, cruise control going out, moisture in tail lights, multiple exterior door handles breaking, etc. All under 50k miles. I like the F250/350's, but they think kinda highly of an aluminum body truck. Biggest reason I'm looking at a Ram. The weird thing about the Dodge is the tuned down engine for the 2500 vs the 3500. Almost 200 lb ft of torque more in the 3500, I believe. Why? Why not just give them both the HO version?

I have a 21 crew cab cummins with air ride and it rides best with a load behind it. The rear air bags are like bricks when you hit a bump unloaded.... Other than that the truck is super nice.

I have a 2019 Ram Cummins 2500. They tuned it down for the transmission. You can get the HO but has to have the Aisin tranny behind it. Back when I was looking it was 2 or 3 grand more..

I agree with the above, they are all good till they break then they all are bad. I like the Cummins for many reasons but 1st is I can still work on it - at least some of it. I know w the Fords and GM's the V8's are packed in so tight they lift the body off to fix certain items. General maintenance is costly but again, its a trade off depending on what he needs.

I'm sure he will be thrilled with whatever you get!

I wish you the best,

Steven
