HAVING A PROBLEM AT THE 3 MILE BRIDGE. LAST TWO TRIPS HAVE LOST A TON OF TACKLE. USING 20 LB TEST LINE AND 25 LB FLOUROCARBON LEADER. WHEN WE GET A HIT I KNOW THE FISH TAKE IT TO SOME STRUCTURE AND THAT'S WHERE WE GET HUNGUP. WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO FISH THAT AREA TO AVOID GETTING HUNGUP SO MUCH?
Thats happened to me a few times Ive acually untangled my line from around a piling with a 10 pound red on. If you used 20 pound power pro your line shouldnt break and you can follow the fish around the pilings if you have to.
I was having the same problem, I went to power pro, I wanna say 30lb. Havent been losing as many fish. We still had some runs the would just clip you off, gonna try some steal next time, maybe sharks?
I found that I usually have to modify what I throw depending on the stucture below. If using a plug try a shallower swimming plug. If using live baits try a float, If jigging then as the other guys were saying, upgrade the line to a heavier braid and fluro combination.
I would definitely suggest braid around structure. I use 15 pound power pro with a 30lb shock leader. The toothy critters are going to take they fare share of tackle but this helps.
