Any recommendations on a specific fishfinder to mount on a yak? I've looked at a few, but unfortunately I don't know what the hell I'm looking at as far as quality goes...

Calrose rice works best for removing moisture from electronics. (The wife taught me that, she is from Hawaii/Philippines and a rice expert)

Just seal all possible water entry points with silicone and you'll be fine (even if the kayak rolls and you dunk the fish finder).

Where do you plan to do most of your fishing? If you are going out in the gulf a lot, then more powerful unit with GPS may be best. If you are fishing inshore in shallow water, your FF is more of depth finder to see structure, etc. and you may not need that power... I fish mostly inshore and have been using the same Eagle Cudas (Lowrance) for years. Cost under $100. Run all day on AA battery packs. Rinse them off and they are good to go
