Hi guys, I have a question about where to mount my Fish Finder/GPS display. It is a Lowrance Mark-4.

I saw several videos of how to install the transducer, I'm ok with that part.

But since I was never near a fish finder or a boat GPS before, I'm not sure where I shoud have the display mounted.

Despite of seeing some videos on youtube, there are some things that aren't clear to me.

Does it should be reachable by hand all the time, do you have to change settings or adjust anything on it often?

I'm sure I have to be able to see it clearly...

My main concearn is about landing fishes too close of the unit and have it broken by some tail slap.

Probably it will be good to mention that I rarely paddle, as I use a trolling motor all the time.

Please let me know what kind of issues I can foresee by using the FF and what advise you can give me.

I'm attaching some pics of the front of my Ascend FS128T so you can see how it looks and since I took those pics, I installed a Scotty rod holder on the Left side.

Thanks!

Oi Amigo,

You will need to keep the GPS/FF monitor close; in order to see it. Since you have the paddle holders on the Port side and the anchor trolley on Starboard, you may have to put a Ram mount on the deck. Since you are right handed, your most comfortable landing side will be Port; so you may want to keep your GPS/FF on Starboard, since you are concerned about fish banging into it. You could even rearrange your trolley and put the mount on the gunnel and that would keep it away from most trashing fish and slime.

Is the cable tray something that you put in your truck to slide your boat on? How did you come up with Brasilianut?

Hi Friend,
Thanks for your answer!

Well, there is something else to take in consideration, I have a big box mounted on the Port side and because of that I land fish on the Starboard.
I'm attaching a pic that shows the box with an yellow X where I'm thinking to have the FF.
Where you see a white sticker between the X and the control box I now have a rod holder and I don't use the paddle holder you see there.
Please take a look and tell me what you think about it.

Because of the 2 batteries I have inside the kayak, the thing is heavy to lift to load and unload on my truck; When it's time to launch or retrieve from the water it's pretty easy, but at home it's like moving a tank.

That's why I made that beautiful cart with the cable tray. It has the same height of my truck's bed and it allows me to move the kayak anywhere by myself.

The username is a short for Brazilian Nut, how some friends call me for some reason...

You might wanna look at setting up some rails. Since it appears the side have flat surfaces it may be good to add one on each side then mount all your other goodies to it....http://www.rammount.com/Products/KayakMounts/TrackRailMounts/tabid/4610/

I plan on mounting PVC from my front rod holders and bring them together in the front above my legs for accessories....

I have the same ff/gps combo.. I keep it on the sonar screen most of the time unless im heading to a specific wreck. So I dont really mess with the settings much when im out. I used the hardware that came with the unit... it's pretty sturdy I can hit it all I want and it wont budge! I have mine installed in the front of my tarpon and I have no problem seeing it. I think where you have the x would be a good spot... easily visible in that spot and it will probably keep it safe from the fish.

For the kind person who chose to PM me, here goes a pic of the box (I tried to send it when I replied to your PM but seems that it only would be possible if I had the pic already posted somewhere...)
And I forgot to mention the kill switch, maybe the most important thing there!!!
Thanks again.
