Well, hunted all day Saturday (01/30) and saw nothing. Pretty discouraged to say the least. Well, got home Sunday from church and told the wife Im headed to the woods. She was quick to remind me that we have a group meeting at 6:30 that I just happen to be leader for. I said, "Don't worry, I won't be late"....famous last words of a fool.
Got to the stand at 3:30, climbed the tree, and at 4:15 I see two does about 100yds running up the hill, already better than yesterday is what goes through my mind. At 5:20 I have a spike at the feeder. 10minutes later a does comes up from the bottom. I wait 5 more minutes but nothing. Then, as soon as I start to climb down, the spike runs into the bottom, and I just think he saw me....Then he came out. A buck is walking from the bottom towards where the spike was. No time to think so I had to make split decision (club is a 6pt or better). He looked big enough so I popped him. He ran towards my stand and stops 15 yds. My gosh, did I miss. His neck was only thing visible, so I shot there and dropped him. Drug him to the truck, txt my wife that I am going to be late.
145LB 7pt, 14 inch spread. And thank the good Lord Florida has another month of hunting
Oh, and to those who know me, no smart comments about missing. While taking pictures I found the first shot. I was just in too much of hurry to kill and did not let that shot take its toll.
