Once again this year the Fall tuna fishing has been excellent. We’ve had a good stretch of weather since Oct. 7th, almost near flat calm seas and the fishing has just been as good as ever. The Yellow fin tuna bite has been as good as it gets, plenty of 100+lbers and even more in the 60-70lb. range which has filled the boxes just about each time out. Not to mention the unlimited amount of Blackfin Tuna that are out there as well. Most of the fish are coming from behind the trawlers but the floaters are holding plenty as well. The bait of choice is menhaden. The snapper bite was good, but not as good as one would have thought it would be. But, if you hit the right spot you could easily fill your limit, most of them avg. 12-15lbs. The snapper season closed on the 14th of Oct. and was definitely nice to have. The cobia bite has been very good as well. There are a lot of big cobia out there right now, but as cobia fishing goes, some days are better than others. You can go three straight days and catch quite a few, then on the fourth they disappear, go back on the fifth and they are thicker than ever so that option is there as well until the water temps. drop from some of the stronger cold fronts. The tuna bite is as good as it gets right now and should remain this way till sometime in November. Plenty of Yellow fin and Black fin so if your looking to make a trip now is the time to go. As we move into later October and into November, the wahoo will start to show up in more numbers, there are some here now although we really haven’t targeted them yet. We still have several open week days in October and in November.
