Escambia River Indian Mounds?

Anyone ever hear of an Indian Mound on the Escambia River? I'm familiar with the one in the Mobile River delta, but I hadn't heard of one on the Escambia until I saw a cheezy video of some sort of treasure hunt on a series called "Carribean Pirate Treasure". Supposedly some pirates had stashed their loot next to an Indian Mound on the Escambia, but I've never heard of any mound there. I'm more interested in the mound than the loot (the mound is a tad more believable).

Escambia floods so often it's hard to imagine a mound lasting more than a handful of seasons. Definitely some interesting history in the swamp though.

There is or was some mounds in Floridatown in the Andrew Jackson Estates area.
We have several Indian mounds near the Tallapoosa River close to Montgomery. If someone digs for artifacts at or near them, bad shit WILL happen to the digger.

There was an encampment in the Fundy Bayou area. Not sure if there are any mounds. Friend of mine has found arrowheads along the shoreline there.
Sounds like from the locations these are gone. I only read a couple pages. One must be Innerarity point.

Several down in Mary Ester that have been mowed down. You have to think back in the day most were destroyed and used as road building material
There are mounds in East Milton on the Blackwater River on the property were the City of Milton wants to build the new Sewer Plant . When you ask the City about them they do not want to talk about them …..
One on Perdido River, close to the Bay.

I always heard you had to keep a hambone in your underwear when you dig around those things. Supposed to keep all that bad juju off of you.

Just to be safe…….it is against Florida state law to keep artifacts. F.S.S. 267.021(4)
Naval Live Oaks. At least one. They don’t publicize the exact location.

That sewer plant will be built there. All of the filings against it were filed way too late. The project has been approved by the State and will be moving forward.
I’m not saying that I am all for it, just stating the facts I have heard in meetings that I have attended..

Discussed the city’s proposal for the four lane with City officials on Monday.
There is 50’ between the two historic buildings at the foot of the bridge. Room for four ten foot lanes with five feet of clearance on each side. Willing street closed off to Hwy 90 traffic. 25 mph speed limit.
I hope the DOT takes the city’s proposal and implements it.

Actually, the one in the Mobile delta is still there, so it stands to reason that if there were one on the Escambia, it would still be there. Google "bottle creek site" and you'll see that its in the middle of a swamp

Yes, I had found that, but nothing on Escambia river. Interesting read though. The guy that wrote it was a microbiologist and was quite a brainiac in his day.

It's in the middle of the swamp...on an island. There are islands on Escambia River that never submerge. I've hunted those and never found a mound.
