I just wanted to put this out there. PH and his family have always been the ones that the Sheriff's Office called when they needed assistance with any kind of livestock. I know in the late 80's, they were already utilizing him. I worked for the S.O. and called Mr. Hayes many a day and night to come and help with an animal. So, for the ones that assume that he has no experience with animals, I beg to differ. That man's whole life has evolved around animals. I bet the bank he tried everything before resorting to putting that donkey down.
There's always more to the story. There comes a time when you get tired of a animal and their owners. Whole story sounded like he and others had been there before and was about tired of screwing with it and owners that did not take care of the problem. Maybe he should have loaded it up and to it to the glue factory? Social media can paint a bad picture without a background.

We are talking about a donkey here right? I could understand if it was a cow or a horse that he shot, since those have some actual monetary value. I know people that would give you a donkey. Just show up with a trailer and it would be "How many do you want?"

Several years ago, my uncle was at a livestock sale in North Alabama, might have been Cullman or Moulton I cant' recall. While he was waiting around on the cattle auction, they ran a donkey through the auction pen during the goat/horse portion of the sale. Nobody bid on it. After the cattle portion of the sale was over, and he hadn't seen anything he wanted, he went out to his truck to leave, and somebody had put the donkey in his cattle trailer.

He went back in and told them that he hadn't bought a donkey and that somebody must be playing a joke on him. They told him, "Well, I don't know what you are going to do, but you can't leave it here." I think he finally wound up giving it to one of his neighbors who he convinced that it would keep the dogs/coyotes from bothering his cows. :sneaky:

If we’re generalizing, I know a bunch of people who are far more useless than a donkey.

Be a better world if we could shoot them but were not supposed to because of the whole value of a life thing.

Just call it a post birth abortion, it should be okay in some states. The fetus never developed properly and all. At least they can argue that shite in court for the next 40 years or so while you age out. :p

I really love putting my groceries in a cart where the dogs butt has been.
Better than a kid thats been sitting in the cart with a chitty diaper on.

Warning: Seventy-Two Percent of Grocery Carts Have Fecal Matter on Them - GOOD

I've seen people with a dog riding in the cart where a kid sits, but they have a blanket or
a large (beach) towel over that area so as the dog doesn't touch the cart.
I guess they don't want their dog getting kid chit smeared on it?
I seen a lady the other week with her little dog in a cart, it was in a gym bag.

As for cats, people think and say they're the cleanest animal, as they clean themselves, digs a hole
to do their business in.
Really, they're Clean? They get poo/pee on their paws digging the hole and covering it, then
they lick their chitty pissy paws, and the rest of their body. Now they're a walking used diaper.
You pet the cat, you're getting the chit all over your hands. Then you eat a sam'ich, and you ingest the kitty poo too.

Ever seen what a donkey will do to a dog? He'll kill it in a heartbeat.
Nope, but seen one kill a cow, and mess up a horse and another jackass.
But a "trained" herding dog will not put itself in a position to get f'd up.

And besides, "Other witnesses who saw or interacted with the donkey told deputies the animal was not aggressive,"

Also reported: "He reportedly then approached the donkey and fed it by hand, but did not have a rope, halter or any other equipment to capture the animal. He allegedly refused to accept equipment offered by bystanders."

After the first story that came out of the Sheriff’s Dept, and as little as I trust what newspapers report, including emotional witnesses, I tend to believe only what I actually heard on the tape. Even that can be interpreted many ways. I have put the rest of the “facts and eyewitnesses” into the trash can. I was not there. I think they sacrificed him for their own hides. National news beat down, and no apology or retraction. Sad.

Don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not but my in-laws were losing a lot of geese to a fox and possibly a coyote.
They got 2 donkeys about a year ago and haven’t lost one since.
They put the horses in their stalls at night but leave the donkey’s stalls open so they can roam all night.

Cause a donkey will stomp a mud hole in a yote.

That’s literally why people have donkeys.

I guess I will never understand peoples need to bring their damn dogs everywhere with them especially an eating establishment. Had a chihuahua the other day make one heck of a screaming noise in the Publix and scared half of everyone in there. Folks, the dog needs some alone time too so leave your critters at the house when your shopping or out to eat!
Just read an article were publix is enforcing no dogs except service dogs

Wish they would abide by that because this little tile tapper didn’t have any sort of “vest” on identifying it as such. Just a fat, mangy looking pot licker that had no business being in there.

I think that makes it worse.

Ok...Alright you got me. I should have said I use to know people. Actually you might try looking in the Mississippi Market Bulletin:

My dad has a subscription and I use to see ads for free donkeys in there quite a lot. So much so, that my brothers and I discussed getting one and employing the "single-use, disposable donkey" concept for game retrieval when we went hunting in Colorado. It was dismissed however, because despite the fact that we are cold-blooded elk assassins, none of us would have the heart to "dispose" of the donkey and it would no doubt cast a pall over the trip knowing that one of us was going to have to whack the donkey before we headed home. 🥺
