anyone hear about the 400 red snapper tags they are auctioning off for 40$ a ticket if u are entered in the rodeo only if u win u get 4 fish last weekend in october u can enter as many times as u wish but only win 4
how f-ed is that now not only u need a boat tackle fule ica ect to go out u have to enter a tournament and if thats not enough pay for a lotery chance to possibly kill 1 ars per person this tournament is no more than a tourist trap i know as i have fished it many years never seen a $ given to a captain or mate for winning so look at this if u wish to be part fine but if u feel like me dont go there just my opinion

This should be reason enough for all of you to wake up and stay out of Destin nothing good every happens over there it's the one place I know of in this area you are guaranteed to get swindled at every turn With the exception of one boat maitance place I refuse to shop or spend any of my money over there and feel pretty dang good about it. This is the only scientific study in thr marine fisheries world that you buy a tag to harvest there speceimens for them think about it something a bit fishy no pin inteded ofcourse

So not only do they get to profit from getting to catch fish you and I can't catch, at the end of the day they are getting the money from the proceeds off this BS....

I don't frequently post but some of this stuff pisses me right the hell off. Heres a personal opinion I sent to the FWC.

This is just another insult to the fishing public. These are public resources being put on a lottery in one small fishing town, Sorry thats B.S. To many regulations, no data/old data being used to manage these fish, different limits for commercial interests, now special favors for more special groups, again B.S. I notice the public has no opportunity in this at all other than charter a boat, again B.S.

In response, the council voted in support of allotting varying numbers of exempt fishing permits to seven tournaments, one in Texas, four in Louisiana and one each in Alabama and Florida. The National Marine Fisheries Service adopted the council's recommendation and a total of 1,600 permits were allocated. Two-hundred permits were made available to the Rodeo.

Its all done at the Gulf Council, have to go to meetings to keep up!

Closed season except on a charter boat..

The fee for charters will be passed on to tourist..with the price of fuel they are trying to put the sport fisherman out of the sport of fishing

The only research this is doing is to test the waters with snapper tags. If a resource is endangered, it should not be caught by anyone. Plain and simple. But since snapper is not endangered and people can manipulate the system to benefit a few, that is what the will and are doing with this public resource.
