might be in the market for new depth finder and just wondering the difference in side imaging and regular depth finders

side imaging is pretty awesome. check out humminbirds website. i use the 997si humminbird to home in and the raymarine c series to pinpoint using 2 different freqs. side imaging is good to about 80-100 feet on the bottom or about the same depth in deeper water when looking for bait schools. had an old interphase that was useless. humminbird also has a split view along with a plotter.had one on my second boat and when i sold it i bought another one for my main rig. you wont be dissapointed. in split view you can do side imaging with a regular bottom finder screen. matches exactly to my c120 raymarine. gps differs by a couple of thousandths
