Been hitting the national forest pretty hard the past two weeks. Seeing a pile of deer, double digits in a lot of sits, just not much rut activity and nothing I’ve wanted to shoot. This one came cruising through around 10:45 Tuesday morning, 140yds high shoulder dropped him in his tracks.
This morning I went to a small piece of private property my family owns on the west side of town. This guy came out chasing a yearling doe at 6:20. Put one in him and he piled up but he started kicking as soon as he hit the ground. Before I could get an anchor shot in him he jumped up and ran off. Gave it an hour and watched a spike harass the hot doe for a while before I walked down to where he dropped. He only made it 15 yds off the plot. Deer had the biggest neck of any buck I’ve ever seen around here, it was impressive.
