Neither of us wanted to fool with cleaning fish today so it was a catch and release day. Did not even carry a cooler with us

we deposited the $4 launch fee about 6:15 at Black CreeK Lodge and headed for fly fishing waters on the Choctawhatchee River. Could not ask for better weather and water conditions, but that did not add up to a good fly fishing morning.

We worked at it for over and hour and the take was meager, but my partner got one worthy of a photo. Beautiful fish! I switched to a beetle spin and that didn't work either.

So the trusty B n M graphite brim busters were brought out to hopefully rescue the day. Using crickets a pattern did develop that was noticeable. The best bite was fishing lilly pads with a cricket on the bottom in about 2 to 3 foot water. We caught some decent fish this way and many were shellcrackers. Did not have any worms.

We ended up with about a two dozen good eaters, but also a whole bunch of dinks down to about 3 inches. All were released.
