Where are the trout and reds on the west side of the bay?
Since we cannot keep snapper, trigger, AJ, I thought I would stay in the bay :)

Thanks

Well, the answer is - nothing. Tried the docks and flats around Shalimar bridge, the deep edge between Shalimar Point and Black Point, the Eglin Flats, one of the bay barges, and the deep flats west of Crab Island. 1 foul hooked flathead. Not my best day. Using a MR17 and soft plastic jig.

Your best bet is to use live shrimp this time
Of year or throw a shrimp imitating lure. Not many people are willing to give up their good spots. But theres a cove by brooks bridge thats loaded with reds right now...

Might want to try around the Rocky Bayou bridge. Idle around watching your bottom machine until you see a school. Sometimes they'll be bunched up 100 yards or more from the bridge.

What in the world do you need shrimp for, and I am still trying to figure out how you fish from Shalimar Point to Black Point and then Eglin flats and not catch fish?

Keeping it simple here, everyone fishes too fast and they don't match the seasonal hatch.

Menhaden aren't around in large schools yet, you need to imitate mullet or glass minnows.

The sun is warm to us but the water is still chilled, slow your bait down and let it pause for awhile.

Also as of right now; the water is tannic/red. I've been catching all my trout on a "clown" color, something Im not comfortable with at all but needed something the fish could see.

There are hundreds of redfish sitting in potholes off Eglin. A lot guys are sight fishing for them this time of year, weedless flukes are the way to go. Trout are up on the flats already but also lingering in creek mouths/water flow.

If you come across something feeding or chasing, then you can bump up the retrieval or the baits.

Or throw out a live shrimp on a Cajun thunder and just wait, it's candy all year round. Biggest factor is leader, length and #test make a huge difference.

Lobsterman, tell us your secrets. What should we be doing?

The fish have not changed pattern much. The reds are still super shallow waiting for an unsuspecting mullet to swim by. I am even catching them on fast retrieve top water. I am throwing the little yozuri 3DS in hay color, a shadow rap shad in purple color believe it or not, a super fluke unweighted, and a jackal Bonnie 95 in golden shiner and aurora black. Zero bait unless I have my young grand sons with me. You do not need bait to absolutely wear the fish out.

I've done that a few times. Tough to keep pounding the same spot changing things up and no bites while you could have gone to the next spot following the tide.

Que up the song lyrics, "Should I stay or should I go?"
