Looking for a car rack to go on my 06 jetta. I tried the walmart cheapo and already know that is not going to cut it.

What are some recommendations for me to look at and where is the best place to buy from? I want one that secures to the door jam without using straps. I want it to be removable but somewhat permanent also.

I have a Thule roof rack on my car for hauling bicycles... works great, no complaints. Never tried Yakima, but Thule and Yakima seem to be the two major brands for that type of rack.

You'll need the appropriate towers for your car, then crossbars long enough for your car's width, then the carriers for whatever type gear you plan to carry: bikes, kayaks, skis, etc.

If your car has any type of rack or rails from the factory, either of those brands should offer the pieces needed to complete the system.

best to just get it from the dealership. Yes its more expensive, but at least you know its the right one. Personally, I would trade that german engineering for a pick up truck. O*D*W

Im not a car guy at all but I drive 70miles round trip everyday. At least it does have a diesel... I do like this jetta though. Drives great and gets stupid mpgs. I got 47.8 a few weeks ago. Avg is between 42-45 depending on how much in town driving I do.

Foulhook you have a PM.
