I've been reading a lot about this method of fishing and was wanting to give it a try this year, but I had a quick question. When connecting the line to the jig, is it all right to use the quick connect snap swivels or is it better to tie the line right to the ring? Thanks for taking the time to answer my rookie question!:)

At first glance it's a great idea, but the hooks get caught in it. Only way is line to solid steel ring to split ring, I use owners for rings, I also found that the large steel rings dont break like the small solid rings.

You can also use a big swivel, just make sure you put your assist hook throughthe top hole you tie to.

No snap swivels. We went out a few weeks ago and one of the guys had a snap swivel tied to his braid, then clipped on about a 3ft piece of leader to his jig. I was wondering why his wasn't catching, but as I looked at what he had I realized why.

I cut it all off. Grabbed my spool of 100lb jinkai. Pulled off 15'. Tied it to his braid using a SIG knot. Then tied his lure to the solid ring using a uni.

He got hammered almost every drop after that.

I have been using butterflies since they came out and have caught everything from tuna to triggers on them, If you use a snap swivel it is easy to swap coloors but you get tangled too much and also add another spot for your tackle to fail. Tie it straight to the leader, you can't go wrong.
