I have never been on the Yellow River yet, always wanted to.
Saw this today:

Brown's Fish Camp, a park and boat launch on the Yellow River near Milton that had functioned as a family-owned business for nearly 90 years, is changing ownership.

The Santa Rosa County Commission unanimously agreed Thursday to purchase the fish camp and 109-acre parcel upon which it rests for $425,000. In their committee meeting Monday, Commission Chairman Colton Wright and Kerry Smith spoke of the benefits obtaining the property will have.

"There really is no (other) way for citizens to get into the Yellow River easily," said Smith, who lives close to Brown's Fish Camp. "I think this is a great opportunity for the public."

Colton said he agreed "100%" with his fellow board member.

"We can offer it for use to the public as well as put a number of acres into conservation so we don't have to worry about them being developed down the road," Wright added. "That is a sensitive environmental area."

Brown's Fish Camp owners, listed in property records as Nancy Lee Brown Ralston and Lillian Ruth Brown Nelson, were looking to sell the camp property and reached out to the county first to "ensure it remains open as a boating facility," according to a staff report put together ahead of the commission vote.

Ottis Brown purchased the land at which he would open Brown's Fish Camp from the state of Florida in 1936, records show. Leila Mae Brown, the wife of Ottis, had owned and operated Brown's Fish Camp for 72 years at the time of her death in 2007 at the age of 90, her obituary said. Ottis had preceded her in death.

Nancy Ralston and Lillian Nelson are daughters of Ottis and Leila Mae Brown, according to the obituary.

During discussion of the proposed sale Monday at the County Commission's committee meeting, long-time Santa Rosa County resident Jerry Couey stood up to applaud the commission's decision to move forward with the purchase. He said his family at one time had operated Couey's Fish Camp that had worked in competition with Brown's.

The Fish Camp features just a single boat launch site, but Couey noted that Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers utilize the slip to access the Yellow River and Blackwater Bay.

Smart move on the county's part. I haven't launched there yet, but setting that acreage into a conservation easement is great and having another free ramp is nice, too.

With people like Colton Wright and Kerry Smith on the BOC, I expect better things like this to happen. I know both of these gentlemen personally and they are very conservation minded. I spoke with Kerry Smith today. I told him that I would like to see a collaboration with the State to improve the property and the facilities there.

This sounds very good,,but keep in mind that not all of the property is usable some of it is wetland. But the county needs a Public boat at the Yellow River in this location. This is the first Good thing the commission has done for the general public in a Long time……..

There is only 10 or so acres dry enough to use for a ramp and parking. I bet the campers will have to move so they can have room for parking. It would be nice if they paved or graveled the area so you wouldn't have to park in the mud.
