I fished quite a bit this week and saw what I believe were bonito chasing bait all over. I threw everything I could think of at them, trilled bonito jigs and cranks with no luck. How in the hell do you catch these things?
Find out exactly what they are feeding on match it to the T. And try to play keep away.Don't let them have time to eye it keep it burning/snatching like your trying to keep them from catching it.I fished quite a bit this week and saw what I believe were bonito chasing bait all over. They were Bonita but theyre chasing fry so small you can’t match the hatch without a fly rod and they don’t want anything g biggerWhat you are probably seeing are schools of Menhaden. I was out in Escambia Bay Tuesday and loaded up on them for bait. They have been showing up for the last month or so....
ok thank you for the confirmation. I am new to this so I wasn’t sure they were bonito or not. What I saw them chasing around the Perdido bridge was no longer than 1/2” fry. I’m glad I am not that terrible of a fisher man lol. They were Bonita but theyre chasing fry so small you can’t match the hatch without a fly rod and they don’t want anything g bigger

Yes in Big Lagoon from Perdido Bridge all the way to sand island. Just look for the birds and the fish were under them.Where you seeing the schools in Big Lagoon near the bridge to Perdido Key? Still trying to catch one of those rockets on my fly rod. Thanks
Good luck and report back how you did. I am unfortunately back home in TN and wont be back down for a month or more.Awesome! Thanks for the info, I'll be after them there Saturday!
Dammit now I am mad lol. I love fly fishing and I didn't even take mine this trip. I had it the last couple times and never had the opportunity to break it out. Oh well I'm still learning this salty thing. Been a fresh water fisherman my entire life and the salt is humbling me some. I'm ready to get back already. Got home last night around 8pm. Woke up this morning to snow flurries.....CaptHarry was the one that tied up the fly I posted.

The little Snot Bait fly aka "Dime Piece", put the straight up smack down on some albies Saturday. http://vimeo.com/47799028 Also did a quick vid for a ClearCureGoo contest. www.clearcuregoo.com...www.pensacolafishingforum.com
