Blackwater Family hunt meeting at Bear Lake Pavilion at 6:00 pm. Permit holders and youths(between 8-15) should attend this pre hunt meeting to get checked in and meet with FWC representatives about the rules for the hunt. Normally check in station is at the cleaning station off Munson highway near State road 4. If you check in Friday night you don't have to check in on Saturday morning. Although, you do have to check out at the end of the day and you must have your deer tagged by FWC prior to cleaning or leaving the area.. Any other questions call 850-265-3676. I am not sure about this year, but the first year the familys were treated to a nice dinner and children were asked to participate in "what hunting means to them! hunting with father, grandpa or uncle joe". Group will pick the best story and the child may win a door prize or something. The first year Mike Outdoor gave away a Buddy stand from ol'man treestands. This is a very nice event put on by our FWC office. Hope everyone with a permit gets the little ones out for their first deer or an introduction to hunting and a respect for the animals and the land in Blackwater State Forest. This hunt was started by Danny Arnette and Steve Hoomes of FWC in Dec of 2008. You should personally thank these men at the meeting for setting up the hunt for the little ones. Good luck to all 50 lucky permit holders.

Blackwater Family Hunt Dinner and Prehunt meeting

Just returned from Blackwater Family Hunt Dinner and Prehunt meeting. Big shout out and thank you to Officers Arnette, Hoome, Murphy, Johnson, Wize, Barbara and anyone else I may have forgot to list. Officers Arnette and Officer Hoomes conducted the meeting. Other Officers assisted with questions about the hunt. Other officers served the dinner for the lucky permittees and their children. Mike Scott of Scott's of Jay sponsored the Barbeque dinner and refreshments. Scott' of Jay and Mike Outdoors donated a couple of Safety Harnesses. Walmart of Gulfbreeze donated a Remington Buddy Stand. Just like to thank the Northwest Region office of FWC for donating their time and putting on this event for the familys of the panhandle. Good luck to all the future hunters tomorrow and Sunday...
