Saturday out at crooked island, my buddy Ken and I started the day with a mess of bull minnows and grass flats under the boat.
First cast was a sub legal flounder, second was a 23 trout. We managed three flounder by mid morning then went to the inlet to catch some whiting. After we caught a few whiting we looked around some more for flounder, managing to pick up a couple more.
Interestingly, Ken was putting bull minnows on silly Willy jigs. He caught 4 of the 5 flounder that way. We were fishing the edges of the grass. He was casting into the grass 10 or 15 feet and pulling the jig and fish combo just fast enough to stay on top of the grass. The trout hit a big bull minnow on a yellowtail hook, twitched over the bottom, away from the grass. The whiting were caught on silly Willie's with fish gum.9

So the flounder were in the grass! And they simply blasted through the grass to grab the Willie? Wow, I gotta try that here in South Carolina. Thanks.
