Fished a couple of hours last evening. tide was making the moon was full the sun had just dropped. I caught a little trout I made a few more casts and Wham! Mr big hits and takes off enventually I turned him I got him about 20 ft from me and then he did a couple of laps. reached out and removed the hook from his lip , then i released him. That was the biggest trout ive caught in three months. This trout Is A GATOR! And she is still out there to fight again. This trout was over 5lbs and it was all of 26 inches because i held him against my rod and then measured when i got home.I caught @ DB Flats Thats East of the Navarre bridge On the south side of the sound. If you are fishing from the wall between the bridges You are close , but to reach it you have to wade. Good Luck :usaflag

Thanks for the post and nice catch! I've always just fished in the gulf, but want to catch some specks. I never have. I have fished near Navarre park with no luck, so it nice to know where to maybe try to have a chance to catch a trout around Navarre. What did you catch him on?

never caught no trout in between the bridges but with a long cast i have caught a big red and a few small ones there

I usually fish a place nearthe Navarre bridge, close to DB flats. I'm glad to see some fish coming back there, I'll be looking for some gators next week! Maybe I'll see you out there and we can catch a pair ( We can use my camera) What did you catch your fish on? I've been told that using live bait on specs is cheating, what do you think?

Whoever told you, "Using live bait for Specks was cheating"?,..Doesn't.."Own a boat, buy fuel, hasn't fish till their fingers are frozen or cracked, doesn't know how to tie a good knot, know how to anchor a boat, or lost an anchor, wash a boat, launch a boat,never bought a 5 year Fishing License, never fished in the rain, probaly throws them all back, neverfished with his wife or kid, hasn't been fishing all day and not even get a good look at a fish, doesn't know how to cook,never picked up ice and bait or drinks for you on his way over, doesn't know how to throw a castnet, never had boat problems while fishing, been sunburned,been stoped by the Marine Patrol, never entered a tournament, neverbroke the tip off his favorite rod, is easily confused by the different hook styles and sizes , has neverlost his keys or had his only lighter get wet , not a member of the PFF,is an Ex Bass fisherman with a box full of crank baits and isprobably a Vegetarian or a Yankeethat doesn't evenEat Fish"!....Anyhow.. I know I am at least half right..oke

i use live bait on almost everything i catch accept for pomps but everything else

went out this morning to the bridge area and there were dead fish floating everywhere and birds galore threw out a line with live shrimp and not even a nibble , didnt satay out long though so who knows , will try again maybe after the tide comes back up

Wade you are killing me.This is so funny. I think Ive done most of the things you mentioned.If live bait is your thing then fish on dude. I prefer to fool them on artificials. Right now im throwing Flys. They are working very well. I like to carolina rig gulps . DOA are also a favorite,if rigged properly. I use the invisible man rig, its deadly. The Gator Trout was caught on a Humpback, silver and green. I have had a lot of fun throwing these .It really slows your fishing down and you can keeep your bait in the strike zone longer. What kind of baits do you like best?,for REDS, BIG TROUT? DB flats is my favorite place to fish. It is very hard to find , not on any charts. Its named after A great localtournement fisherman in Navarre. I was luckey enough to see Him fishing it one morning . I didnt rush over and butt in ,but marked it mentally . i went back later that week and and figured that flat out . Now i always catch a few fish there. For some reason it holds big fish REDS TROUT AND FLOUNDER. The best way to get there is to park along the bridge road twoards the bend in the road. walk to the east bank . I start fishing right away. Wade east stay about 50 feet from the beach. when you find a slight drop off..... Stop or your wadders will fill with water. Move in and go around the drop , I always face westand retrieve to the east.Fish slowly. Especially as the water gets colder. This is the spot. If you see a guy out there in a camo colored Kayak give him lots of room ,show respect to the great fisherman. Good luck , let know how you do.:usaflag

I went out to db flats and caught a nice spec. Apparently some guy was watching me from his waterfront window, and he started screaming as soon as I landed the fish! It was amazing! I have had people turn off dock lights before, but this was something else. It was mid morning and completely calm. All of a sudden, the guy started yelling about how I couldn't keep any fish caught from around his dock! I completely ignored the guy and kept fishing, but his antics kind of ruined the mood! Thankfully I was on a good drift and followed the fish to the next spot. BTW, i thought I saw dbflats on a chart, but it turned out to be something else. You do have to watch that drop off though; there is no telling what is lurking out there. Just a few weeks ago, I caught a 4 ft gar fish! It was a fun time, and my first Gar. I caught it on a live mullet while drifting over the grass beds for specs. There is nothing like a fresh live bait to get the fish on! How do you launch that fly on a regular rod? I bet a carolina rig with the fly would really get it out into the strike zone!

I use a weighted float,and a ten ft rod. It casts really far and when a fish hits its a blast. The rod doubles in half. its like a fly rod but only with a spinning reel.

That sounds awesome! Have you used that set up to launch some sand fleasover the waves for pompano? I'd like to catch atrout on a pen rod that I saw on late night tv. A gator trout wouldn't be idea though, I'd hate to wear him out beyond salvation. But what a fight it would be on a light set up!
