I want to start this fishing season off right so I need some advice. Ive probably caught about 5 reds last year, and all by random chance, all with gulp shrimp. Anyways, I am planning to completely redo my tackle box with new baits and lures. I also want to catch more this year.

So my question is, what are some other baits to use for reds if gulp isn't working well? (Ive tried DOA, and have lots, but havent had any bites with them, what is a good method of using them?)

Another major problem I have is location, the only spot I had found around gulf breeze is now private property and out of reach. I just need a good spot with good amount of red fish. I am willing to wade and stuff, I just need to start catching fish regularly :)

Thanks in advance :)</p>

if you are fishing docks i would throw gulp shrimp or jerkshads...also bass assassin makes a scented bait....anything scented around docks works...also try some swimbaits...if you are just wading then find a place to get to the water without getting into trouble and start wading once you are in the water you cant get in trouble...and as far as spots for redfish go....they really dont stay on docks to long because they are constantly cruising looking for food

That's a million dollar question. I am assuming you do not have a boat? I was in your shoes once and it doesnt make things easy. I for sure never had a spot I always caught. Depending on the time of year, I have caught a good bit of reds of the 3 mile shore- pcola side by the foot of the bridge. bob sykes bridge turns on also from time to time.

I fish a lot at nights around 3 mile and if you look at the inshore report, glastronix and I have caught more than 5 red fish in a single hour, many nights. I think in april alone we caught about 40-50 total red fish, but in a boat! Find a light on the new 3 mile fishing bridge and if you dont catch reds I will be very supprised.

Your baits are good. We use gulp new penny, nuclear chicken, top water, a lot of white jerk shads with PRO CURE cent rubbed on them. ANY CENT is better than no cent. When its on you can catch them with a ton of different things. WHITE jerk shads havebeen off the hook lately, but again that will change here sooner than later and the nuclear chicken will turn on if the trends continues.

Learning the patterns is key!

Time will only help you, good luck!

Head up to Hot Spots Bait and Tackle and ask for Chris Matt or John, they will head you in the right direction! Mention the forum and they will prolly help the wallet too!

get a kayak. You can get virtually anywhere an inshore boat can. Then I would suggest talking to someone about flats. I am not too familiar with gulf breeze.
