Well, I first have to thank James (Bullshark) for the opportunity and taking me on the hunt. This was my first time ever sitting in a tree stand. And this was the first deer I have ever seen in the woods. So to say beginners luck is an understatement. I am truly ruined now. And thanks to Lee for showing me how to skin and clean that bad boy. And thanks for the double handfulls of blood on the face. A tradition for the first deer, I know. And also thanks to my buddy Bert for loaning me the lucky climber.

Here's the story.

James sees to it that I get settled into my climber till he wonders a distance away. I get settled in watching all the birds and squirles fight out a few battles. (20 minutes or so). James told me where the deer tended to move through. So I am concentrating to the right of my stand where he said they would come from. I give the grunt call one good grunt and wait a bit. It's 15 minutes later that I look up into my shooting lane and there he stood. I start to shake and my heart begins to pound. I put the scope on him and I see a good 6 or better. But he is facing right at me. He is right at about 100 yards at this point. He continues to walk at me dead on. Till finally he turns slightly broadside and pauses then looks down. I get the scope on the sweet spot and he looks up almost dead at me I thought. I thought for sure he was about to bolt.

I breath one last time and hold it. I sqeeze the trigger. He was about 75 yards away and the freaking tree was swaying back and forth. So getting a good shot with me shaking and thetree swaying was hard to say the least. I see him fall and crawl 30 feet into some brush. I knew he was down. At this point, I can hardly catch my breath. The adrenalin pumping through my system is crazy. I want to get down so bad. But James texts me and tells me to stay put for just a while longer till he get's down.

I see two more spikes walk and go through. Which was pretty cool to see as well. First time in the woods and I shoot a buck and see two more.:letsdrink

I finally climb down and find him laying nice and pretty just where I saw him go down. Hit the front shoulder and through the heart. A nice 7 point. We estimated him to weigh about 150 or so. He was real stocky. Full rut and stinky.

Got him all cleaned up and ready for the processor. Actually going to see about getting a full mount of him as well. He's just too good as a first deer to not mount him. Suggestions on where to get the mount would be appreciated.

Again, I can not thank James enough. James, if you ever need a hand with anything, just give me a shout. You took a guy that you had not met in person on one of their first hunts and it produced. What happend today is what makes this forum great. I trully appreciate it.

Here are some pics. The Remington 700 30-06 did it's job well. Bullet went in front of shoulder meat and through the heart. It actually did not exit. But the bullet cavity that was created was just complete carnage inside. Found bullet lodged just inside the skin on the other side. Shot withcheap remington Core-Lokt 180 grain bullets since that is what I sighted it in with.

And of course the customary first deer blood picture. I went to try and put blood on me and appearently I was not doing a good enough job. So they came after me with two hand fulls of blood.

That's the crazy thing. Other than seeing some deer on the side of the road in my lifetime, this was the VERY FIRST deer I have seen in the woods period. The stars and the sunaligned perfectly this afternoon I guess. Go on my first hunt and within 35 minutes of being in the stand I popa nice buck. I will probably not know what to do with myself from now on. I am still up right now and I can not get to sleep. I am still pumped up beyond belief. I just keep replaying the afternoon in my head and I have permagrin stuck on my face.

Awesome! A first deer is always memorable, but on a first sit in the woods and a good buck like that, it is an incredible happening. You should now be hooked for life. There is nothing else like it.
