Never been on a kayak and renting one for the first time today. What would be a good starter yak? I've been looking at them and keep going back to wanting a OK prowler big game, do any of ya'll have any incite on them?

I have one and I really like it. It is a big kayak, so you need good upper body strength in order to paddle long distances. You can carry almost anything you want in it due to the size. Overall it's a great fishing kayak. If your less than 180 lbs, I would probably pass on the Big Game.

Adam, Welcome to the sport of kayaking. The Gulf Coast Kayak Fishing Association has put together a lot of information that may be helpful in making that important first purchase. check out the link: http://www.gulfcoastkayakfishing.com/GettingStarted.htm

An OK Prowler is a great kayak, I know several people that have or previously owned them with only good things to say.

Welcome,

I agree 100% with those guys. Prowlers are great. I had a prowler trident 13 and it was better than anything I'd ever paddled before. However, if you have the $ and you think you'll fish often go ahead and start out with the hobie of your choice! Test some out at Key Sailing on the beach. Great guys with good info over there too. (you will get addicted.) Took a first timer out today. Stayed in water for like 15 mins and came back in because it was too rough. She's already asking to go again!

Thanks to all for the feedback, rented an OK malibu 2xl from herbys marina and had a blast, wasn't a fishing yak but got a feel for them and can't wait until I get to go out again.
