we used to use balloons and planar boards for stripers in richmond va during the fall but the line always pulls through and its difficult to see the bite in rougher water..i guess ill have to wait for glass top water down here! thanks for the info!

I sometime use a triple swivel. Careful tying the ballon straight to the line. Sometimes it fails to pop and sometimes it will get hung on the eye and sometimes it will lead to a big king running free. I speak of experience. The down fall to the triple swivel is the fact that you will have to leader the fish.

A rubberband is the best way to attach it and the balloon will pop free of the line when a strike occurs and leave nothing on the line to impede retrieval.
Yep.

I usually tie the knot fairly tight about 5-6ft from the bait. If a big fish hits it then it does sometime have a tendancy to slide up the line some but it's no big deal because you're going to reel it in anyhow to either get them or check/replace the bait. Even large pinfish or grunts hooked in the tail trying to swim down don't make the balloon slide on the line. Mine only pop every once in a while but usually it's due to a toothy critter like spanish, bluefish, or pesky ladyfish.
