I'm thinking about thinning some ***** out but don't want to disturb the area too much. I'm considering a .177 pellet gun and would like rec's. I see some are low velocity, 600 fps, and others higher velocity, 1200-1400 fps. I need to get rid of some of these corn vacuum cleaners.

Others with more experience will chime in.

But i would prefer a .22 over a .177 ONLY because accuracy is a little less of a concern. But you then need more fps with a larger caliber. With a .177 you need to be pretty accurate with larger varmint. The style of projectile makes a large difference too. Over penetration with a smaller caliber at higher fps is less successful in killing(i.e .177 at 1200 fps with a pointy nose pellet). Where a flat nosed pellet at low fps in .177, such as the "Destroyer", is more of a "punch" to a small rodent, much less a large ****. If I was buying a rifle I would buy a .22 with at least 1000fps, pretty good optics, and a hybrid round like the "Destroyer". This is all just my opinion, I may or may not be full of bull.

Cheers

only bad thing about a .22 or .25 pellet gun at 1000 fps. it is almost as loud as a rimfire....maybe just use a .22lr with subsonic ammo. I bought a .177 Beeman about two months ago and it is louder than all hell with around 1200 fps. velocity

I second what doggfish said use some subsonic rounds but if you are serious on getting and air gun and have a serious **** problem I would probably get the Gamo whisper in .22 cal. or a benjamin titan NP .22 her are two links. The pellets I would choose would be something like the HN Baracuda Power. They are a little on the heavier side and weigh 21.14 grains per pellet. Probably a little more kinetic energy when it hits the **** and a little quieter of course because it isn't traveling as fast.

I have a Benjamin from wally world. .177 and the.22 barrel. I use the .22 with gammo ammo to rid the stray cats. They make it less than 50ft with traditional vital shots. Took a opossum a few months ago as well. He got up a tree and took 2 to take care of the dog food theif! But they are kind of loud, not as loud as the .22 rimfire but louder than a cheap pellet riffle

I have one of the Ruger .22 air rifles from Walmart. No where near as loud as a rimfire. I think it shoots around 800-900 fps.

Tried it all. Here is what you need. Aguila .22 Super Colibri powderless round. You can open a window in your house shoot and your wife in the other end of the house won't even hear it plus max range is about 300'. Come by the house sometime and I will give you a box to try. DO NOT load in and automatic. If you have an auto load one in the chamber only! It may or may not eject due to no powder. I shot many a tomatoe stealer in my neighborhood in Birmingham and no one ever noticed. This is not a CB round it is powderless. I say deadly to a critter max range about 30' to 50' with a well placed shot.

Yepper....these rounds are SUPER quiet!!! More quiet then most air guns! Scott's usually have these in stock as well as Ubers off Fairfield (last time I was there)

I had twelve in one pic on one of my feeders. They decided they were going to dig up the posts that support my feeder and were successful in felling my feeder. I think I'm just going to wait until after March 1 and try to take them out with my 22. Anybody want any **** meat?

I own a gamo bone collector it seems to be pretty good except i'm having trouble keeping it in sight. Any input?
Most break barrel pellet rifles need to be adjusted regularly. I have a gamo and it will stay dialed in for about 30-50 shots then has to be adjusted. But I do just have the factory scope on it a cheapo, a better one might help.

Get you one of those 55 gallon metal barrels without a top attach a plank from the ground to the top rim. Place some food in the bottom of the barrel. They will walk up the plank jump down in the barrel and cannot get out. Kinda like a squirrel trap you make out of 6" PVC only for ***** you need the barrel. "Live ****" tastey and fresh!
