Deployed the Kayak today just W of Portofino on the N side of the beach around 4:30 PM with a buddy of mine, hoping to find a nice sheltered

cove from the SW wind to fish the grassbeds for some trout or reds. I fished a DOA beneath a cajun thunder poppin cork, & made my 1st cast,

only to have my cork blown outta the water by a large trout who was obviously nearsighted, recasted & hooked up on a nice little 14" trout.

Continued fishing the flats for roughly 2 more hours with 1 speck at 18" , & 4 more in the 14-16" range, all fish were caught with the poppin cork

with DOA suspended 2 foot below the cork. Tried out my new spoon with 1 large hit & miss. All in all enjoyed a beautiful afternoon on the water

with the final count at 6 specks & a fatty catfish, all fish were released to fight again, no pics due to dead camera battery.

Gonna try this weekend if weather permits for some light tackle king action.

Tight lines & full coolers
