A buddy of mine wants to do a swordfish trip and we were wondering a few things.
How much do these trips usually run?
Is swordfish the only thing we will be catching( can we troll between spots of flatline baits while waiting?)
How much fish will we leave with? We both have large families that will be hounding us for some of the bounty so this is important lol
Is there a particular time of year that is best?
Does anyone have any recommendations on a particular boat/ captain?
With 6 people fishing can all 6 expect to catch one, or is it more of a take turns reeling type deal?

TIA!

Sounds like you would be better off going to Joe Patti’s and getting some fish for the family. You chances of catching one ☝ let alone enough for 6 people and family is going to be tough. JMO.

Adam Peeples of One Shot Charters is the top swordfish guy around here. Catching one isn't guaranteed so if you are trying to catch 6 and feed you family I wouldn't get your hopes up, it's not like bottom fishing.

That's pretty much where I stand on the whole swordfish thing, but he is dead set on something with a bill lol

Keep in mind, one swordfish, hell any billfish period, is a good trip for a day trip in the Northern Gulf. Sometimes just getting a bite is good.

Adam (One Shot) and Tim (Recess) both have killed a lot of swordfish. Both will give you a reasonable chance at success and honestly I dont know anyone Id rather do a day trip with if I was wanting a sword. However, a trip like that is NOT one of those trips where everyone is going to reel on a fish or even touch a rod. If you and your crew understand that, its a blast.

Depending on the time of year, you never know when while swordfishing when a dolphin, tuna or even a marlin will hit the flat line.

One average fish of 100lbs or so will feed A LOT of people. Youd have to catch a ton of wahoo and dolphin to come close to getting that much meat.

IMO, you have to decide if you want a meat trip or a chance at a fish of a lifetime. You can get fresh fish at joe patties a hell of a lot cheaper but you cant buy that experience there!

I like Tim's answers better than y'alls! lol I think we will be doing a trip in may with Recess.
Tim’s good people. He will do everything in his power to put you on fish.
I myself think the boy has gills.
