I am looking for info on a 1911 serial number. It's marked C92XXX. On some sites they claim that puts it in 1918 manufacture, but I know for a fact that the original owner died in France in 1917. I think it's a 1914 manufacture, but the C is throwing me off. I am by no means an expert when it comes to looking up this stuff and am hoping that someone can help me out.

Yeah. They give an approximation. Unless I send in a check to the archives department. If it comes down to it, then I'll look into it.

DOM was 1917 according to this site. Scroll to the bottom of the page http://coolgunsite.com/pistols/colt production.htm

The "c" designates it was a commercial production gun and not military
