After a few meetings for work this morning, I hit the road about noon to meet up with a friend in BW. He has yet to kill anything this year and i told him i'd put him in a little honey hole of mine. About 1:30 I got him to his tree and told him i'd walk about 300 yrds away and jack up one myself. Having never been where I was going I just figured I'd get a good nap and maybe get a little lucky. Seeing a decent little trail moving from the standing pines I walked down into the creek bottom and found a good tree. I figured if I got up high enough i could hunt the bottm, the pines to the left, and the pines to the right of the creek. Sure enough, I had such a view, although the shots were definitely limited. Time for a nap.
Around 4 I heard what sounded like deer moving from behind me on the right but i couldn't see bc it was so thick. 30 min later 2 does cross the bottom at about 50 yards, but way to thick for a clean shot. moments later I heared this crash and to my left in the pines was a doe....and a nice little buck in toe. They played cat and mouse for a while then dissappeared. 10 minutes later 3 does appeared in the same place, about 100 yards out in the mature pines. I stood up. Then the horns appeared. He chased the does a little too far. When he stopped in a clear lane, I let her rip. I could'nt tell if I hit him or not, but watched him run 20 yrds then disappear. After waiting till just before dark, I got down, crossed the creek and began to look for blood. I figured finding blood was a futile exercise at this point so I just walked where i last saw him and there he was. Never saw any blood (althoughI didn't really look), but piled him up. So, I don't think i want to change from the ballistic silvertips. So far they are 100%. I figure, who needsthe blood as long as I have the body. I'm sure one day it will bite me, but i shure like not having to track deer.
