Hey, CHris- read your post from Sunday- nice work. I need to pick your brain a little because it looks likeI fished a lot of the same areas without even a knockdown. I was in grass over by the elbow that was scattered and tough too keep lines cleared as well and could not raise anything that even looked at the baits let alone get a mahi or Whitey hooked up. I don’t even know what to ask or what you even can offer to tell me, but if there is anything you can offer for advice I am open. And if you answer is hire a guide for a day or go out on a guided trip I understand that too. I tried to run what I though was good areas of chlorophyll and salinity as well as some bottom contours- weput lines in at sunrise at edge just north of nipple, down to nipple past 131 then to just west onto the flats past the elbow. When we found nothing (at least for us) that’s why we headed towards spur.

Anyway- thanks for all of the posts and great job out there, Captain.

I am looking to start fishing with artificial lures on the surf. 10'-12' rods are what I am looking at but I cannot find any on websites or in stores that are light action. I am assuming that is what I would need.
Any places to recommend would greatly be appreciated.

Chris, I'm headed down this weekend and need a little help. I'd like to target sheepshead out of my kayak. Can you tell me can you tell me about the park and launch possibilities near/under FL292 bridge in Perdido? Is the another place near there or towards GS I need to look at. Any kings being caught in Alabama yet? I'm due for a trip and am planning on bringing all my surf and kayak equipment. I'll let the conditions dictate how I fish most likely. Does Sam's have any crabs? I appreciate any info you can give me, also thanks for all your contributions to the forum.

Chris I found an old post of yours about a trident 13 and Raymarine dragonfly install. I just posted a question similar to what you have or had set up.

Can you tell me if that install worked for you gooping it to the hull or did you have to go another route, and of course the big question are we talking about the same FF and transducer. I am looking at the RM dragonfly 4 pro.

You have been helpful to me in the past as well as many others. I mentioned to you earlier that my wife and I were retiring and moving to our home that borders the Bon Secour wildlife area. My colleagues just gave me $250 to buy a rod and reel. (I was so thankful that it was not a plaque!). We are down this week and I wondered if you could sell me a worthy surf rig in that price range. I mostly drown bait and have a mixed bag of mostly Penn spincasters and one Diawa baitcaster. Not sure what you would recommend for that money.

Having read your posts, I recently bought a bag of Tsunami Swim Shads. I really know little about lure fishing. Could you recommend say $50 worth of lures that would get me started on working the holes up and down the 3 miles of the Bon Secour? Also what lures you use to target what fish? Sorry to be so long that it required two posts. I hope to met you and become a good customer in the future. Mike Brown

    Dear Chris,

We have never met, but I do enjoy reading your informative posts on this forum. I would like to solicit some help from you. My wife and I have owned a home in the Martinique on the Gulf neighborhood since 2009. I fish every time we go. My technique is limited to sand spikes, pompano rigs, looking for cuts in the second bar and waiting with fresh dead shrimp and sand fleas for whatever comes along. Our home is right next to the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge so that is where I go to set up. With this limited technique, I have caught a lot of different fish from 50 lb Blacktips and Black Drum to slot and a few above slot redfish to days when I cannot catch anything but catfish. My wife and I are retiring after this semester (we both are professors at Mississippi State U.) and are moving permanently to our beach home where I can fish to my heart's content. Here is where I need your help.

Chris, I was so glad to finally meet you face-to-face.
I really liked the forum with you and Dusty (good combination) and learned even more about the fishing I enjoy so much.
I was intrigued by your statements about the Perdido Pass "Park".
This piece by WKRG calls more attention to the issue and I'd like to do whatever I can to generate more interest (and pressure) to get as project in the works ASAP!

I'm with you man, good setup, great kayak reel, you are asking a good price for that setup, I just don't want to swing $100 on the reel now. I appreciate the fast reply man.

Your the one person I thought to ask in helping me make a decision. I found a place to stay on Little Lagoon that has a ramp and dock. The dates I wanted ( last two weeks in June) are booked. I wanted to catch some King Mackeral fishing and hopefully red snapper season will be open then. Since that door seems closed, I thought I might try the second and third week in October.
My question is will the Kings still be in ? I have a small boat and am banking on being able to get out of west pass. I would only go about 3 miles out on a good day.
As far as I know the red snapper season dates have not been announced. I might try to find another place to stay but this place is neat since it has its own boat ramp so I can trailer to Orange Beach if necessary
Thanks and Ill be sure to visit Sam's and say Hello
