Looks like the afternoon mullet bite at Alaqua has about petered out. Trip several day ago it was13. Yesterday afternoon....5 They are getting bigger though. Next week will force myself to get up early and down there by daylight to see what the morning bite is all about.
Just got a call from buddy down at Alaqua...ke's killing mullet left and right. Only two boats there. I will be down there tomorrow but fishing specks on the 331 rocks to start, then to the mullet hole.
Hey billyb....what's going on over your way. Haven't heard from you in ages. Over here the river bite on bream and catfish is really picking up. Mullet has been almost non-stop for about 2 to 3 weeks. Every trip has been about 35 to 50 and it makes no difference on low or high time or time of day. I have been going 9 to 10 in the AM and have all my box will hold in 2 to 3 hours. Not sure now long this will last, but it's hot right now.
Billyb.....what do you ferment for suckers? I'm thinking chopped corn and cottonseed meal combined. I really don't know anything about baiting a suck hole or what to look for for spot to put out the bait. But have been wanting to do that for a couple of years now.
Can you give me a pointer or to as to what to look for to drop a bag.
Billyb: You doing any mullet fishing. It's actually red hot over here, but not all that many fishing Those that are going are getting 25 + and numerous limits. One of my buddies went three times this week and got two limits and a dozen on a 2 hour trip. I'm just not posting much about it. Tired of reading about myself while too many others just lurk and never offer anything.
Woke up early, got up, and went fishing. The guys James and I encountered day before yesterday were already setup in the point spot at Alaqua. They were wild with enthusiasm about fishing there yesterday….a 100 limit….3 guys….all with gold hooks. All of them had 6 lb line and gold hooks this morning…LOL
I got about 15 to 16 or so. with gold hooks. Didn’t count them…left them on neighbors doors steps. The guys got probably 25 or more. We both quit at 10:30
Big shinners are available on special order only. The ones Moore Bait carries area 'medium' size which means 3 to 4 inches. She said the big ones cost 1.00 to 1.25 each. I have used he medium size and the worked but not great. Used them 3 times and the best we did was 4 cats, 2 2 pounders and 2 6 to 8 pounds. The other trips I think we got just a couple.
