Last day of in state snapper
Took advantage of the calm seas and ran east at about 35 mph to dodge the thunderstorms directly south of the pass.
Dropped live cigar minnows on our first spot and it seemed like it was going to be a tough day. Picked up two keeper snapper in about 30 minutes, then started to see some activity on the surface. We casted a yozuri diver out and within a few casts we were hooked up with our first king. It didn't take long after that and we had 6 king mackerel in the box.
After the king bite slowed down I noticed the thunderstorms had shifted east and gave us a little window south west of us, which is where I originally wanted to go this morning. We eased out, stopping on several spots on the way. By 10 o'clock we made it out there with only 2 red snapper, a couple mingos and a mess of kings. Within a couple minutes we were bowed up on three of the four rods in the water. In the next 2 hours we caught the rest of our red snapper limit, 3 of which were 15-20 pounds. We also caught a nice scamp, mangrove snapper and solid Spanish before we left.
It really turned out to be a productive fishing day, lots of nice fish and good variety.
