Default Pensacola Fishing Report 05-12-19

The Fishing Charters in Pensacola are on fire here lately! We are seeing a lot of King and Spanish Mackerel. These fish are being caught on either live cigar minnows or artificial jerk baits. The key to catching them is to cover more ground so trolling has been our best bet. We are also catching a lot of vermilion and white snapper. Same tactics as usual with carolina rigs with squid or cut mackerel. We are also seeing a few cobia around this past week or so. We have seen some great catches with some cobia upwards of 40 pounds. The fishing is only gunna heat up from here so now is the time to get out there and get on the fish of a lifetime! Thanks again and hope to see y'all out there!!

Great looking Cobia! How deep are y’all going for the snapper? Are y’all fishing artificial reef or natural hard bottom?

Actually Surfridr I am always open to helping anyone that ask for it. Mainly this time of year we are fishing a lot of natural bottom. Paradise hole and many other natural bottom in that general area will have your mingos and white snappers. A lot of time you can find them on the larger artifical reefs as well. I mainly fish the 70-100 foot of water column. The trick is to find an area that is not loaded up with triggerfish or red sapper. Normally if my machine marks a lot of fish I tend to not even try as it is probably triggerfish that wont let you get below them to get to the snappers. Hope this helps!

Thanks Capt Zack! Appreciate the help and input. I am impressed!

Curious, do you do much inshore fishing like redfish in the bays, or mostly out in the Gulf?
