Why did Jesus choose fishermen
This morning's devotional in "The Upper Room", which I read daily, is entitled, "Ordinary People" with the thought for the day, "Jesus calls all people to follow him - no resume required."
"Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee when he saw Simon and Andrew fishing. A little farther down the lake shore Jesus came upon James and his brother John. He called all of them to join him. I have often wondered why Jesus chose these men to follow him. They weren't rich or famous; they were just ordinary fishermen. "
Also, read Mark 1:16 - 20
It looks like we are 'chosen' .
Prayer: Open our ears and hearts, dear Christ, to hear your call to us each day. Amen

We live in the real world, see and appreciate the wonders of His creation and His hand of provision. Fishermen, by and large are simple, hardworking folks with great faith, always expecting that the next spot will be the glory hole. Other than a tendency to lie, fishermen were obviously a great choice.
1 Corinthians 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

Sorta like why he doesn't want us to surround ourselves with like minded folks (believers). we need to venture out and speak/spread our testimony with non believers in hopes to transform lives.
Back then, fishermen were abundant and important... He came across them and probably knew what was in their hearts..
Boatless Again, How long? Who knows...
