"the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom"
Matthew, Mark, and Luke all write of the rending or tearing of the veil at the moment of Jesus' death on the cross. We tend to focus on the resurrection. Let us not forget the significance of the moment of Jesus' death on the cross and what it means to all believers.
The veil is described in the Old Testament. I don't have all the specifics but the last information I saw showed it as 15' tall and 15' wide and very thick and strong. I have heard, the thickness of a man's hand and strong enough to resist being pulled apart by 2 horses.
The veil was placed at the temple entrance to the Holy of Holies which held the Ark of the Covenant. This was where the high priest entered once a year to commune with God and pray for the atonement of sins for his people. No one else had access to God.
By the veil being rent, from top to bottom, we were given immediate and eternal access to God through his son. We were given a gift which none deserve.
I thought for most of my first 50 years that I had a "relationship" with God but, had no clue about how rich and rewarding that relationship could be until that day I came to realize that it was his son's death that finally allowed me true access to eternal life.
It took me all those years and one short moment to transform Jesus from the nice stories I heard in Church and Sunday School to my Lord and Saviour.
I thank him for "opening" my eyes and pray that others who "think" they have the answers, will have their eyes opened as well.
Thank you oh my father for giving us your son, and leaving the spirit behind until his work on earth is done.

Good post. I love the specificity in the scripture that the veil was torn from top to bottom indicating that it was God who tore the veil. Reconciliation with God begins with what He has done, not with what we have done. As preachers of old used to say, he is the "hound of heaven"...chasing after man. What a beautiful picture. Thanks for the post.
