Default Should polygamy be legal?

Just thinking today...Should we allow polygamy as legal in our country? Why not? Aren't we infringing on the rights of people if we deny that one man can love 3 women...or one man can love 3 men? Would we dare to deny them their basic human rights as Americans?

I am interested in your thoughts. Please...respect is THE critical component of any helpful conversation.

I had a conversation with my personal pastor once, and I know this isn't a Biblical topic, but that is how my opinion on this is formed. We were discussing polygamy. No where in the Bible could we find a verse saying that polygamy is wrong. That being said, it is clear that it is not wise. Everyone in the Bible that took more than one wife was caused grief by it. Solomon was the wisest man ever, and his wives caused him to stray from God.

So my answer is no, we do not have ability to deny a group of people the right to polygamy if it is within the laws(women not being forced to be there). However, I will stick to just taking one wife, as I believe this is wisest.

When I read the Old Testament, I often DREAM how nice it would be to have multiple wivies.

When one started getting TOO Loud, just head over to the next one, the one with a smile.

But back to your question, why is it illegal??

If we are going let men marry men, why not let a man marry as many women as he wants, as long as they agree.

It may cut down on the divorce rate!!!

LOL, this should be good! If it works for some people, I guess it's none of my biz.

In MY opinion, being married to one woman (while wonderful) complicates life as much as I EVER want it to be!!! Sometimes MORE.

I see some of you have posted thoughts involving religion and the Bible. And I have my own views and beliefs on the bible (I'm baptist), but I think everybody needs to understand...The Bible and the Constitution are 2 totally different things.

I belive people should vote according to the constitution, not the Bible (or whatever their religion is).

You have to keep in mind that America was a refuge from religious persecution, and thus the key term "Separation of church and state" came along.

I think we should vote on the "equality" of all mankind (constitution), instead of just what you personally believe is right in you're religions eyes.

Just food for thought.

And sure, why not? It would be a long....long, complicated process for all the legal documents though lol, can see it now.

You can only legally marry one but there is no law against living with as many as you want (or can stand)...ie Hugh Hefner

Just like any other issue, whatever floats your boat. As long as it doesn't infringe on my rights, Go for it.

I have been married to the same women for 40 years in July. I sure can get in enough trouble having one and any more would sure get me killed. Still happy after 40 years.

I understand what your saying but, there's not really a separation between church and state to me personally. Meaning I can't personally support a political stance that I feel is against biblical beleives.

I must add, that my wife never gets too LOUD, so it is just a thought, and NOT reality.

She's a doll!!
