Default Pope elected

I am not Catholic but, the election of the new Pope was moving. My wife even turned off the murder trial to call me in to look at the chimney an hour or so ago. There was a seagull perched on it and he stayed there for what I'm guessing was 10 minutes or so before taking off. I told my wife, I would bet that white smoke was going to follow. Just a few minutes ago, the white smoke appeared. While the camera was panning, I saw the clock: 7 minutes after 7. At one point, inside that big old clock, the 7 second mark was passed. Take from it what you will. I know what the spirit says to me.
I would ask that each of you who are moved to do so, take a moment to pray for him.

Lol. Makes sense, considering that the white smoke consists of potassium chlorate, lactose and chloroform resin.

I will pray that the new Pope has a relationship with Jesus Christ and allows him to direct his paths

I will venture here only to learn what other Pastors and Christians think of a new Pope.

I was raised Catholic, did 12 years of Catholic School. I lost my faith in high school and college for reasons we could argue otherwise. (Guilt, Limbo, (you have got to be "kidding" me), etc

The new Pope has been hailed by EVERY media outlet as a humble man. Fine. But what if the new Pope had been a Catholic insider? Would the media have said it was a poor choice? Part of what annoys me about Catholics.

But is the Pope relevant as a Christian except that his flock is 1.2 Billion stromg.

What does the everyday Christian think of the new Pope?

Not to argue the "Catholic" thing. Just wondering how important a new Pope is to the rest of the Christian World?

Me, I expect he is Pro-Life, pro hetero-marriage. That's fine. It'll be interesting to see if he loosens the reins on the priesthood. I don't think he'll support women as priests, or married priests, but he could certainly start the discussion.

Then he needs to take responsibility for the abuses of the Catholic Church. I don't care about money laundering so much. But that Catholic Priests abused kids, then simply moved around a time or two with the Church looking the other way is just WRONG. He needs to either lay it all on the line (he won't) or at least PROMISE it will NEVER happen again.

I was never abused. I never saw abuse. I have no doubt that it happened though.

Jim

Good questions Jim. As a non-catholic Christian, this has zero effect on me. I have theological issues with the idea of a pope and the catholic doctrine of "ex-cathedra", but aside from that, it is simply a non-event.

I agree with "the spoon" and don't even know what "excathedra" is. The power and money behind the Catholic Church is an influential factor in world politics, which I wish wasn't the case. As for the Pope, to quote Tammy Wynette - " he's still just a man" albeit a very powerful and influential man. Y'all stand by him!

Same for me. No affect one way or the other.

The Bible is clear, Christ is the head of the Church, not the pope.
