Default Joel Osteen's home

Nice home Mr Osteen has purchased from donations. I think its extremely excessive and that money could have been spent helping others.

I wonder what Jesus would think about this?

Honestly I am not sure how I feel about this. I have OFTEN thought about preachers who are affluent, being raised very religious I have at times looked down my nose at rich pastors, but isn't it all relative ?
I mean the boss of your local Taco Bell is not going to have the same size house and same type cars as Bill Gates. So if Osteen makes 800 million a year he very well may spend 400 million helping folks, and charities, that still leaves 400 million. I have no idea what the man makes, contributes, so it is not mine to judge. If he is a charlatan he will have his day, and will have to answer for his actions.

I know exactly how I feel about it. I think it's ridiculous and makes me put no faith whatsoever in him. He's a motivational speaker and that's about it.
I don't think the leader of a church should be living a luxurious lifestyle on donations.
I seriously doubt that most donors know how he lives. If they do and keep donating, they are idiots. The money could be used in much better ways.
I'll take Billy Graham any day.
This is assuming that this really is his house and not an urban legend being spread on the internet.

Well then, I guess you can't believe what you read on the Internet. I had heard Billy Graham never took a salary over $100,000.

The eye of a needle is all that matters.

I think Joel has made a lot of money on book deals so its not all donations. It definitely seems excessive, especially if the home is only for him and his wife. If I won 100 million in the lotto, I would never get a home that big.

I think the small town preachers are a bigger problem. The ones who drive 100k cars and live in 500k homes while their congregation can't scrape together 2 pennies.

Well now that they actually have reality shows about preachers it will get worse....one has to up the other.

We all have a day of judgement, and as absurd as I think it is fer these preachers to live in multi-million dollar estates based on tithes is of no matter. They will have to answer for their life choices.

I don't usually weigh in on religion topics here ..... but there's a pretty easy question to answer:

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. " Matt 6: 19-21

"Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys." Luke 12:33

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:25

etc etc
(But I am also minded of http://biblehub.com/matthew/7-1.htm)

Considering Osteen adheres to what's known as "Prosperity Theology", no doubt he has no problems with his conscience.

In matters of faith so often humans tend to choose to believe:

A. What they were brought up to believe ... and/or
B: What is convenient for them to believe.

Osteen's not the only one though. Check out the houses of Benny Hinn, TD Jakes, Eddie Long, Creflo Dollar Leroy Thompson, etc

Kenneth Copeland:

Paul & Jan Crouch

Benny Hinn

Joyce Meyer

Bishop Eddie Long

Pat Robertson

Bishop T.D Jakes:

I could go on & on (including the ever-popular John Hagee) .... but you can check it out for yourself here: http://www.inplainsite.org/html/tele...html#Tele-Hinn
