Default Gay Marriage

Judge Aleito made a fool of himself today. He basically said gay marriage has not been around long enough to make a decision. he went on to say that the internet has been around longer than gay marriage.

He is correct, gay marriage has been around since 2000 when the Netherlands made it legal, but what about equal rights? That has been around for 300 years.

Gay people have been around since the beginning, its not a new concept. Love your neighbor should apply to all!

Most of the anti gay marriage comes from the religious right. As a country we need to accept all people as equal.

I think gay couples should have a civil union and they dont need the "marriage" term. The civil union should allow them all the benefits of a marriage.

Do any of the Christians on here have family members who are gay and what is your stance on Gay Marriage?

I have a feeling this thread will turn into an ugly debate. All I can say is i disagree with the thought. Im not an overly religious person, but I know the difference between an entrance and an exit. O*D*W

Anyone can get married, as that is their Constitutional right. The discussion is really about the government recognizing the marriage of homosexuals and applying the same "benefits" that heterosexuals have.

The answer is not having the government recognize certain marriages and apply benefits to the ones certain groups favor, but to get the federal government out of the marriage business in the first place and return to the Constitution. Forget all of the benefits and terminology, just get rid of it all. All of the necessary questions can be handled at the state level anyways, but even then it is hard to legitimize government's role in marriage. But at least if it is handled at the state level, folks can choose to live in a state that is pro/against homosexual marriage if they so desire. But, if you remove the government completely and let the people decide, things will work themselves out. It is the free market concept.

As to Christians, most don't agree with the concept of homosexuality and consider it sinful, but have no "right" to tell others how to live their lives and who they can marry. Christian congregations have to decide how to approach the subject and how to deal with the issue of homosexuality within the individual congregation. Again, this is the free market at work because individuals can choose their congregation based on how they approach the issue if they so choose.

The act to me is disgusting, but the love 2 gay people share is no less than straight people!

IMO, its all genetics and they were born that way. Who would want to live a life of ridicule and shame?

Excellent post!!

I think the Golden Rule is overlooked by many religious folks. Heck, if we applied this to everyday life we would see many problem disappear.

I saw a sign in the crowd that said.....

"If you are worried about the sanctity of traditional marriage.....PROTEST DIVORCE"

I like it!!

The truth is all the benefits that married couples get can be accomplished without being "married." This doesn't boil down to them "just wanting to be married." It isn't about a title, it's about changing the Christian culture of America. You can't call two homosexuals "married" for the same reason that you can't call a circle a square, that's just not what it is. You can't change a 5,000 year old institution just because people want it.

Wow, I agree with you Slayer....

I don't get why they can't have a civil union with all the benefits? Why do gay people insist on the marriage term?

Marriage needs to be between a man and a woman, if you are gay call it a civil union and go about your business!
