Default Can an Atheist Go to Heaven?

I will tread very lightly here again.

Apparently the new Pope says God will accept an atheist if he is a good man.

http://www.theatlantic.com/internati...heaven/276214/

I am not an atheist, I am agnostic. The writer talks about "Pascal's Wager". The "theory" that there may not be a God, but just in case there is, do good things, just in case.

So can a "good" atheist go to heaven? A "good" agnostic?

How about a good "Jew", "Muslim", "Hindu", "Buddhist", or pagan?

If they do not go to heaven, do they go to Hell? Limbo?

I won't argue, (I am not smart enough to argue Scripture) I just would like to hear opinions. I might ask more questions.

Jim

PS. I ask because I was raised a Catholic (12 years of parochial school). This (if true) is truly a new doctrine.

Default In a word NO

The Roman Catholic Church is a joke always has been. What other discipline in life religious or not are you informed that a book is the law of the land and the very word of your deaitie (forgive da spellen bro) then in the same breath informed you must never for any reason read the dang book. Ever wonder why the confess well its actually a way of controlling people not cleansing your soul no true believers would even consider this only god can forgive your sins and you don't have to talk to a dude wearing a dress with a little boy on his lap to get salvation all you need to do is pray ask yea shall receive the blessing of The Lord it's in the book they aren't supposed to Read. You really must question a so called religious authority (Brother Pope as Jerry Clower called him) blessed the Axis and Allied forces in WW2 at the same freaking time. So to answer your question Jim absolutely NO A catholic priest will say or do anything to grow the religion and keep da money a flowin

No...

Belief that Christ died for our sin and accepting His gift of salvation is the ONLY ticket into heaven.

Be it heaven or hell .... I've no doubt an a-theist would find him/herself quite surprised to arrive at either.

Romans 1:
Quote:
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Romans 2:
Quote:
14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) 16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.
With these two scriptures one could argue that those who've not heard the gospel will be judged by their works on Earth. Those who have heard the gospel and rejected it have sealed their own fate.

Sounds like a pretty good argument to me. Reflects some insight posted a few months back without a reference.

Also, sheds light on the often repeated "where you were born" argument.

I'm an agnostic/athiest, and while I believe there may be an after life, that I might not be included in... I still believe if you do right to others while alive there is no reason you should be mistreated upon death.
