Default Winter gator(trout) hunt...

Well the search for the winter gator trout is finally over! I told some buddies I'd finally found them last week and all I had to do was spend enough time working them and figuring out the bite. Persistence pays off! I had a little time to kill after class yesterday so I decided to head to the gator grounds. I wasn't sure if anything would be feeding given the high winds, funky tide, and the crazy night of tornados that we'd just had but I was eager to go. I was working an Egret baits Mambo Mullet as thoroughly as I could for the first hour without a single nibble. I kept at it, casting and working towards a particular area of potholes that havery produced for me in the past. About halfway there I cast onto some submerged structure, a couple bounces on the bottom and then I knew to bring me jig up higher to avoid a snag when all of a sudden BAM!!! She inhaled my lure about a foot below the surface. I immediately knew it was a solid fish when she danced on the surface for me. Some incredible head shakes and a couple good runs before she got tangled in a line I was trolling. I was terrified I'd lose her but miraculously I got her in the net. I couldn't have been happier to see another gator trout because it's been so long. 10,000 casts and I finally got that one bite I was after. She was released healthy to maybe be caught again by another lucky angler.
