Default Truth about Dolphins

I am novice kayak fisherman. I go to the gulf coast several times a year and always catch fish if not to rough to get out. I am jealous of you that live close by. My question is about dolphins. When I go deep sea fishing we leave a spot if dolphins show up. Last year there were huge amounts of bait fish off grayton beach and I was catching LOTS of fish---no kings but bunches of spanish and i was constantly doubling on Bonitas. When the dolphins moved in--things seem to slow down dramatically.

I have seen posted on here that it seems some think the presence of dolphins is good---shows you where the baitfish are and doesnt disrupt the other fish.

So those more experienced than me--is the presence of dolphins a good thing or bad?

I think they run off the fish. Last weekend was doing well on redfish and flounder on a bank, then two dolphin showed up. Not a hit until they moved on. Then another redfish!

Coincidence? I think now.

Dolphin are predators so it makes sense that the fish will leave. If I was a red fish there would be nothing as scary as a pod of dolphins pushing onto a flat.

Hate those crazy water mammals . When they show up I go home or switch spots . I noticed that they follow me for a long time unless Shut my fish-finder off.. I had one almost tip my kayak when it tried to take the Red off my stringer . Really got my heart going and have never used a stinger since that day.

I have always caught fish with or without them but my personal opinion is this, we are in their house taking their food and I completley respect them and love it when they come around. I swim with them as often as I can. We stop on the way in every trip in the bright green water and anchor up and wait for them. The kids love it.

Was trying to put up some pic's but I guess the Forum didn't want them, error with security key missing???

They are terrible to have around. Considering a dolphin will eat a hooked fish without a second thought, gamefish are a little pensive, and rightfully so.
