Default Toothy Things Off Destin

Launched out of Crab Trap yesterday morning. Saw some bait busting just past the second bar but only managed to sabiki up one very large threadfin. . . luckily I had a back up of frozen cigars and a few new Yozuri deep diving plugs. Hit the tugboat for a second try at bait and couldn't find anything but a couple of pinfish. I threw my threadfin in the drink just above the tug and after a few moments my reel started screaming. Thought it was a nice king until I saw those teeth! Quick and VERY careful dehooking and pic. I settled for the bait I had and started off on the very long trek to the 80 ft mark, maybe 4 miles out. Remoras were merciless on my frozen cigars so I switched to two Yozuris . . . had a decent hit at the 75 ft mark, and another that resulted in a $16 Yozuri donation to the fish gods . . . I then switched back to a frozen bait/Yozuri troll and WHAM, nice king hooked up on the deadbait. Lesson learned, rig up a wire leader for the Yozuris!

Man it looks nice out there.

Cuda is one thing I have never caught in the kayak. Pretty cool.

Cool! I think that is the first barracuda caught in these parts from a yak - with a photo to prove it. Way to go.

Yeah, those teeth are nasty on a barracuda.

Thanks for sharing your report and the two nice photos.

Have you ever eaten barracuda? One old salt swore it tasted just like chicken...
