Default The Spot- day 2

Launched just before 5:00, tried to get my ole butt up earlier…couldn’t do it.

Straight to the dock I’ve been fishing, lights on, water slick and calm…that’s not good.
There’s activity around the lights, not sure what.

Throwing a bone colored IMA skimmer this morning, it’s a more subtle mullet dawg-walker. I prefer it for calm slick days. A few casts, nothing. Next cast to the outside of the light shadow, twitch, twitch…BAM!..miss…BAM!...miss… BAM..BAM..BAM…miss, miss, miss…right at yak-side now, only about 8 ft. away, Bam!...fish on, he hauls ass back to the dock, I manhandle him out to open water…short fight, nice red…about 20” or so. Didn’t measure, photo or nuthin…released.

Back to fishing…I managed a few more on the IMA skimmer till the wind picked up. I swapped to a silver spook w/ red-head, between this and the chart. Mr-17 I caught lost around 15 or so again, released a bunch, keeping 5.

The past 2 mornings have been pretty cool; I could sit and watch the feeding pattern develop around me. It starts w/ mullet/surface activity and if you look carefully those fish jumping aren’t all mullet. As specks do around spawning time, they like to jump. The entire school of mullet mixed w/ trout moved up n down the area I was in, I would just sit in one spot, quietly…water is only 2 ft. deep…and wait for them to push back my way. Catch one, spook the rest and repeat the whole routine over-n-over.

Ok, 2 days…got a few fillets for cooking…back to catch-n-release.

Damn Bruce, sounds like you found their hiding place. 5 is an early launch.

I like getting on the water well before daylight, it's good for the soul and dock light fishing.

But the fish turned on around 6:00 - 7:30.

I will be down there fri sat and sunday, from birmingham, love fishing pensacola, I would gladly drop a 100 to go fish one of these spots, follow instructions, can keep a secret only down about once a month, have a 13.5 fishing kayak, can get up early, or if not point me to a couple well known spots,

Thanks,
